WELCOMING 2022 AS WE WRAP UP 2021
Dear Friends,
As we look forward to a new year, we also look back at the year that’s about to end. We reflect on the highs and the lows, the challenges and the wins, and everything else in between.
As a company we’re involved in more than 40 concurrent projects, in 5 countries across the world. As a team we’ve expanded to over 100 talented members across Europe and Asia. And as individuals we’ve grown and matured.
I’m incredibly proud of our team across the world that continues to create award winning designs, especially our Vietnam team that has undergone lockdowns and uncertainty through the pandemic.
We’ve also been nominated for several acclaimed industry awards including the leading World Architecture Festival, MUSE, A' Design, and VUPA (Vietnam Urban Planning Awards).
We won five platinum awards at MUSE, including the Zhuhai Sanjiao Island Eco Resort in the green category, three awards at A’ Design including gold in Architecture & Building Structure for the Modern Fuzhou Tulou, and three prizes at VUPA including the Special Prize for the Cat Ba Tourism Urban Area project in Vietnam.
But as great as awards are, this year I’m most excited to share that our Anhui TV Tower, built in 2011, this year become a global phenomenon, garnering more than 28 million views, 1.4 million likes on Instagram, and being republished by numerous accounts, small and large including on Linkedin and more!
I love that we went viral, because it means non-industry people, across all demographics and industries, appreciate our innovation and design.
It’s surely a cliché by now, but the last two years have been anything but normal. I’ve spent the last decades of my life travelling across continents, and as wonderful as Vietnam is, I didn’t expect to spend almost two years there.
However, as the saying goes, ‘there is a silver lining to every cloud’, and I’m now writing this letter from my beloved family town of Paris, and it’s been a joy to reconnect here, seeing the city through new eyes. Perhaps it’s coming back here after such a long time that makes me now acutely aware of the culture, sights, and experiences that inspired my lifelong work, and I’ve shared a few winter images of them below.
There’s a special feeling to Paris that’s hard to describe. It’s the vibe of the Montmartre outdoor cafés with wicker chairs and white & red checkered cloths, the stunning Christmas lighting architecture of the Vendome Plaza, the way the small flower shop in a spa hotel arranges beautiful bouquets, and of course the iconic beauty of the Eiffel Tower and the dynamic red festive color of Champs Élysées avenue.
Finally, as we head into the new year, I want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has made the growth and success of NDA possible; our incredible team, our business partners, and all our friends for the constant support and hard work.
Here’s to 2022 and may we all see success in the new year!
